Titre : Development of non-teleost fishes Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : B. G. Kapoor, Auteur Editeur : Science publishers Année de publication : 2009 Importance : VII-301 p. Format : 25 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-57808-500-2 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 597 Vertébrés à sang froid. Poissons Résumé : Fish development, associated with evolutionary studies, rose to play a central role in the 19th and 20th centuries. A recent treatise summarized the early life history of the teleostei, the most speciose group of fishes. However, an up-to-date compilation of the development of non-teleost fishes has so far been unavailable. These fishes include the jawless fishes (hagfish and lampreys), the cartilaginous fishes (sharks, rays, skates and chimaeras), the forerunners of the teleostei: the cladistia (bichirs and reedfish), the chondrostei (sturgeon and paddlefish), the neopterygii (gar pike and bowfin), and finally, the closest relations to the tetrapods: the coelacanths ('living fossils') and the lungfishes (Protopterus of Africa, Lepidosiren of South America and Neoceratodus of Australia).
The present volume has been devoted to closing the gap by an up-to-date scientific review of the early life-history of these non-teleost fishes (agnathi excepted). The editors commissioned recognized authors who are specialized in the particular fields for each chapter. The book will be a valuable reference for students and researchers in the difféerent aspects of fish development, comparative, phylogenetical, evolutionary and molecular.Development of non-teleost fishes [texte imprimé] / B. Format : 25 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-57808-330-5 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 572 Biochimie Résumé : In the past 20 years, fish cytogenetic has become an essential tool in fields as diverse as systematic and evolution, conservation, aquaculture and more recently, genomics. This book is organized in four sections (systematic and evolution; biodiversity conservation; stock assessment and aquaculture; and genomics) covering the major fields of present fish cytogenetic research. The book provides a comprehensive picture of the ongoing research around the world. Due to the diversified arrays of themes approached, including speciation and evolution, biodiversity and conservation and genomics, the book is addressed not only to specialists in cytogenetic but to all scientists interested in fish biology. Titre : Fish defenses : pathogens, parasites and predators (volume 2) Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Zaccone, Giacomo, Auteur Editeur : Science publishers Année de publication : 2009 Importance : XIII-400 p. Format : 25 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-57808-407-4 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 571 Physiologie et sujets voisins Résumé : Dramatic changes in the environment, including habitat degradation and climate change, have focused attention on how individuals and populations respond to a shifting biotic and abiotic landscape. A critical step toward meeting this goal is a clear understanding of the capacity of individuals to defend themselves against threats. Changes in water quality and temperature have direct and indirect effects on fishes. Defensive responses can occur at many levels, from cellular to behavioral actions. The authors in this volume have attempted to provide a general view of the current state of knowledge of fish defenses with respect to pathogens, parasites, and predators, and to point out gaps where further study is needed. Titre : Metamorphosis in fish Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Kapoor, B.G., Auteur Editeur : Science publishers Année de publication : 2012 Importance : 260 p. Format : 24 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-57808-713-6 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 597 Vertébrés à sang froid. Poissons Résumé : Metamorphosis is a major developmental phase characterized by morphological and physiological changes. It prepares organisms for a drastic shift in habitat and behavior. Among vertebrates, besides the well-known larval metamorphosis in amphibians, two types of metamorphosis are also described in the life cycle of some fish species. Larval metamorphosis, also called first metamorphosis or true metamorphosis, is encountered in lampreys, representative species of basal vertebrates as well as in some teleost groups, elopomorphs and pleuronectiforms, and possibly also in some other teleost species. Secondary metamorphosis occurs in juveniles of some diadromic migratory teleosts, such as salmons and eels, and compared to larval metamorphosis, involves less drastic morphological changes. This book gathers current data on the two types of fish metamorphoses and their endocrine controls. This book will be of interest for fish biologists as well as comparative physiologists and endocrinologists.
