- Ciheam, 1994 . - 162 p. ; 30 cm.

Titre : Mediterranean offshore mariculture Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : B. Basurco, Auteur Editeur : Ciheam Année de publication : 1997 Importance : 215 p. Format : 30 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-2-85352-215-1 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 639 Chasse et pêche commerciales, protection de la faune et la flore Résumé : Aquaculture production in the Mediterranean has rapidly expanded in the last decade. Production techniques have progressed as a result of efforts by the private sector and the scientific community but problems have concurrently been faced.
One salient characteristic of the Mediterranean is the regional nature of the market for marine aquaculture products. To deal with the emerging issues and to maintain the momentum, regional cooperation was required. Three international networks involving partnerships between UN organizations (FAO), Mediterranean regional (CIHEAM) and national institutions are now operational. They are placed under the aegis of the Committee on Aquaculture of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM).
These networks are TECAM (Technology of Aquaculture in the Mediterranean), SELAM (Socio-economic and Legal Aspects of Aquaculture in the Mediterranean) and SIPAM (System of Information for the Promotion of Aquaculture in the Mediterranean).
TECAM and SELAM networks are coordinated by the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) which has been, since 1995, organizing and implementing the activities through the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Zaragoza (IAMZ), in collaboration with FAO and other Mediterranean institutions. At present, subjects included in the TECAM network are nutrition, genetics, health management and species diversification. Activities of the SELAM network have so far included marketing, production economics and aquaculture planning.
As regards the TECAM Network, although special attention has been given to biological aspects, the field of production technology is also considered of key importance. In this sense, the TECAM Advanced Course on Mediterranean Off-shore Mari culture (Zaragoza, Spain, October 1997), upon which this volume is based, should not be considered as an isolated activity, as this network has already addressed other technological aspects, e.g. techniques for Mediterranean Hatcheries. Aware of the growing interest of the sector in these technologies, it was agreed to take advantage of the valuable information gathered during the course and publish it.
The collated texts are organized to provide an overview of the Mediterranean production sector and the concepts of offshore systems (site selection, mooring design, off-shore systems, net systems, etc.), followed by a description of the recent development of the Mari-culture sector, and its movement offshore in a number of key countries. The production technologies and the technical design issues of offshore systems are then described, based primarily on marine fish production, but also including shellfish culture. Finally, a financial/economic comparison is developed for typical offshore production systems, and the overall conclusions of the course/volume are presented.
We trust that this publication, the ninth volume devoted to aquaculture already published in the CIHEAM journal, will be an updated reference and a valuable source of information for those interested in aquaculture development in the Mediterranean.Mediterranean offshore mariculture [texte imprimé] / B. Titre : The mediterranean fisheries sector : a reference publication for the VII meeting of ministers of agriculture and fisheries of ciheam member countries Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : FAO, Auteur Editeur : Ciheam Année de publication : 2008 Importance : 179 p. Format : 30 cm. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-2-85352-400-1 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 639 Chasse et pêche commerciales, protection de la faune et la flore Résumé : Fisheries resources and coastal and marine environments in the Mediterranean are threatened by overexploitation, pollution and the impact of a wide range of activities. All Mediterranean countries share these problems and their solution necessarily implies a common response that takes into account the inherent particularities related to geo-morphological, ecological, socio-economical and cultural aspects of each country.
The contents of the publication here presented have been selected with the aim of reviewing key issues of the sector and were prepared and presented as a reference work for the VII Meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture and Fisheries of C1HEAM member countries held at Zaragoza (Spain) on 4th February 2008. This issue of Options Mediterranean's published by the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Zaragoza (CIHEAM-IAMZ) with the collaboration of the General Fisheries Commission of the Mediterranean (GFCM) and the Fisheries and Aquaculture Department of the' Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), has counted on the active contribution of key experts, who have been involved in activities organized by these institutions for many years.
The work starts with a review of facts and figures, an analysis of the seafood market trends in Europe, followed by a review of the state of fishery resources. Some management-related issues are addressed, including the ecosystem approach to fisheries management in the Mediterranean, the use of trawling nets, recreational fisheries, and marine protected areas for fisheries in the Mediterranean. Two main aquaculture topics are also dealt with: sustainable development of Mediterranean aquaculture, and assessment of sea-bream and sea-bass markets. Finally, regional cooperation in the Mediterranean is discussed. This publication also includes the final declarations of the meeting, as well as the speeches delivered by Commissioner Joe Borg, Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the European Commission, and Mr Alain Bonzon, Secretary of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM).The mediterranean fisheries sector : a reference publication for the VII meeting of ministers of agriculture and fisheries of ciheam member countries [texte imprimé] / FAO, Auteur . - Ciheam, 2008 . - 179 p. ; 30 cm.
