| Résumé : |
This revised third edition is the outcome of over forty years of technical training, research and practical experience: a combination which makes the author an outstanding gear designer and net maker.
After four years' training in Hull Nautical College, following which he obtained the British Maritime Industry Full Certificate of Competency as an officer, the author served with the Royal Navy and thereafter in the fishing industry, trawling over varied grounds for four years. He spent seven years shore based with leading net and gear manufacturers: three years in marine research and development followed by twelve years in the service of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the British Government as adviser/instructor and lecturer. During this latter period he served in Brazil, India and the West Indies, giving the benefit of his practical experience and expert knowledge to the fishing industries of those countries. His other individual books include Deep Sea Trawling and Wing Trawling, How to make and Set Nets, Modern Inshore Fishing Gear and Pelagic and Semi Pelagic Trawling Gear. Garner's books are noted for the simplicity of their text and clarity of the drawings. |
