Titre : Assessement of freshwater fish seed ressources for sustainable aquaculture Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Bondad-reantaso, Melba G., Auteur Editeur : F.A.O. Année de publication : 2007 Importance : 628 p. Format : 30 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-92-5-105895-4 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 639 Chasse et pêche commerciales, protection de la faune et la flore Résumé : Four of the most important resources to aquaculture, outside human and technological resources, are land, water, seed and feed. Efficient use of these resources is necessary to guarantee optimum production from aquaculture. A project, Study and Analysis of Seed Production in Small-scale Rural Aquaculture, was implemented through a desk study and expert workshop (held in Wuxi, China from 23 to 26 March 2006) to assess the status of freshwater fish seed resources and supply and its contribution to sustainable aquatic production the results of which are contained in this two-part publication. Part 1 contains
the proceedings and major recommendations of the expert workshop which tackled three major themes: (a) seed quality, genetics, technology and certification; (b) seed networking, distribution, entrepreneurship and certification; and (c) how rural fish farmers can benefit from the freshwater aquaseed sector. Part 2 contains the detailed outcomes of the desk study consisting of three regional syntheses (Africa, Asia and Latin America) based on 21 country case studies, five thematic reviews (quality, genetics and breeding, seed networks and entrepreneurship, seed supply in rural aquaculture, farmer innovations and women involvement) and three papers (self-recruiting species, decentralized seed networking in Bangladesh and the establishment of national broodstock centres in Viet Nam).Assessement of freshwater fish seed ressources for sustainable aquaculture [texte imprimé] / Bondad-reantaso, Melba G., Auteur . - F.A.O., 2007 . - 628 p. ; 30 cm.

Titre : Bivalve depuration : fundamuntal and practical aspects Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Alessandro Lovatelli, Auteur Editeur : F.A.O. Année de publication : 2008 Importance : 139 p. Format : 30 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-92-5-106006-3 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 639 Chasse et pêche commerciales, protection de la faune et la flore Résumé : World bivalve production and consumption has increased significantly in recent years, from a combined total for wild catch and aquaculture of approximately 10.7 million tonnes in 1999 to 14 million tonnes in 2006. Furthermore, the development of freight by air and sea and preservation techniques have enabled consumers, in different parts of the world, to enjoy eating bivalves produced in distant waters. Such developments in distribution and trade have in turn led to emerging challenges for consumer protection, particularly in relation to the safety of bivalves from pathogenic micro-organisms.
Several species of bivalves are often consumed live or raw (e.g. oysters), or lightly cooked (e.g. mussels) which make them a high risk food product category requiring proper control measures to eliminate or reduce to acceptable levels potential biological, chemical and physical hazards. This document is intended to provide a basic introduction to the public health problems that can be associated with shellfish consumption and to provide guidance to the bivalve industry as to how a depuration centre, and the associated systems, should be planned, constructed and operated. It is mainly targeted at new
operators or those with limited experience, as well as fishery and public health officers who deal with the bivalve industry. This is of particular importance for several developing countries, where the bivalve industry is expanding quickly with the aim of winning an ever larger share of the bivalve international market.Bivalve depuration : fundamuntal and practical aspects [texte imprimé] / Alessandro Lovatelli, Auteur . - F.A.O., 2008 . - 139 p. ; 30 cm.

Titre : Culture-based fisheries in Bangladesh : a socio-economic perspective Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Valbo-Jorgen, John, Auteur Editeur : F.A.O. Année de publication : 2007 Importance : 41 p. Format : 24 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-92-5-105850-3 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 639 Chasse et pêche commerciales, protection de la faune et la flore Résumé : Fisheries policy in Bangladesh is still trying to get to grips with the major; dilemmas of maximizing benefits from natural resources while ensuring an acceptable degree of equity in the distribution of benefits and protecting the ecosystems that support the resources. During the twentieth century Bangladesh adopted one-sided production-oriented policies in the agricultural sector to feed its rapidly growing population. This strategy included increasing fish production, then in decline mainly as a result of environmental degradation brought about by the expansion of agriculture. The solution was to develop aquaculture and later to promote culture-based fisheries and large-scale stocking in the floodplains and beels (lakes) that previously sustained capture fisheries.
Although fish production perse in many cases may have increased as a result of this type of intervention, benefits have not been socially and environmentally sustainable. This document reviews and discusses the development of culture-based fisheries and community-based fisheries management in Bangladesh with regard to socio-economic impacts as well as
environmental effects and biodiversity loss.Culture-based fisheries in Bangladesh : a socio-economic perspective [texte imprimé] / Valbo-Jorgen, John, Auteur . - F.A.O., 2007 . - 41 p. ; 24 cm.
