"Access to the market. The case of Morocco."Although aquaculture in Morocco has existed since 1920, it has developed only in the course of the last ten years through the creation of typical industrial entreprises, whose priduction is destined largely to exports. The range of aquaculture products exploited in Morocco is varied from breeding frsh water fish (trout, carp, etc.) to the sea water breeding (oysters, calm, sea bream, sea bass, eel, etc.) . However, seabass and seabream culture is the most valuable of the aquaculture in Morocco. With an annual production of approximately 1000t of seabass and seabream, Morocco represents 2,2% of the Mediterranean production. The greatest share of the production is destined to exports. Italy has the most important market and adsorbs more than 65% of exports. Along way behind are France representing 20%, Spain 10%, and the other countris4%, the local market absorbs only 1% of the production. Although the circulation of Moroccan sea-products in the European Union comes under norms linked to agreements signed between Morocco and the European Union, distance from these market means that diversified logistic measures must be mastered and the social events of all contries of transit should be taken into consideration. Furthermore, the qualitative option constitutes a major asset for client loyalty. |
