This dictionary includes 170,000 words, phrases and examples, and over 1000 new words.
It allows you to choose the word quickly by using a "Guidewords" to choose the right meaning, and using simple definitions of the easy English that is easy to understand.
This dictionary helps to use words correctly by using special notes that show you how to avoid common mistakes, including 90,000 example sentences with 25,000 collocations that show you how words work together in real English.
In this cambridge advanced learner's dictionary the reader will find several characters which are:
friendly: we have made the page as friendly and easy to read as possible, with colored printing to make the words easier to find, and with a special clear way of showing idioms and phrasal verbs;
helpful: you will find "common learner error" notes spread throughout the dictionary, to make sure that you don't make the mistakes that many learners make. The notes are based on the cambridge learner corpus, which is a 15 million word collection of learners' English based on what students have written in the cambridge exams from cambridge ESOL.
"Well informed", you will find thousands of up-to-date words as you look through the dictionary, including many that have only just come into the language. We can make sure that these important new words are included because we have the huge cambridge international corpus to help us.
The corpus resources can give us information, but be sure that only good lexicographers can put it into a book that you can make friends with.
This dictionary is associated with cd-rom that gives you even more:
listen and speak: improve your pronunciation by listening to any word and repeating it;
don't use the wrong word: "smart thesaurus "gives you the right word fast;
help on the internet: just point at a difficult word and the dictionary instantly looks it up. |
