| Résumé : |
Récent trends in thé large demain of environmental protection and its related technologies point to a growing work spécialisation over thé past few years, while generating new and spécifie terrns in each profession. The launching in 1993 of a " Euroenvironment " training programme by thé Lyons Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with support from RACINE, a European Community body, showed thé need for a multi-lingual glossary of terms encompassing ail thé thèmes relating to thé environment. This led to thé development of a first French-German version of thé glossary for thé benefit of thé programme participants who were to go for further training with German firms.
It's based on that expérience that we took thé décision to broaden thé scope of thé glossary and to add English to it, while keeping in mind three guiding principles, which are :
* to maintain a thematic division which takes into account thé spécifie needs of each profession with, in addition, two introductory chapters recapitulating reccurrent terms and expressions in ail domains,
* to arrange thé différent thèmes by language with translation into thé other two languages in order to take into account thé peculiarities of each language,
* to pay a spécial attention to clarity in :
* trying to match precisely each term with its ciosest équivalent terrh, and avoiding thé use of too many synonyms,
* providing a précise explanation in brackets and italics of thé meaning retained for thé translation in thé other two languages.
We feel however that there is still room for improvement in our work and would therefore welcome any remarks or suggestions.
We wish to express our grateful thanks to Agnès Lachaux for thé patient work she bas put into thé formatting and proofreading of thé glossary. |
