| Résumé : |
The purpose of this book is to serve as a text for the students in ecology and to demonstrate the wide array of ecological problems that invite continued investigation.
The author has tried to formulate a compromise in order to pick selected topics over the whole range of mathematical ecology and then to deal in detail with those aspects that seem likely to furnish good starting points for further research.
This book is in no sense a review. An enormous amount of interesting and valuable work has been ignored and any mathematical ecologists glancing at the bibliography is bound to wonder at what may seem inexplicable omission. The author's object has been to provide a sufficiently detailed development of the topics examined for the reader to be able to consult the current literature with an understanding of what has led up to it; as far as possible nothing has been asserted without proof.
This book is based in one-semester graduate course in mathematical ecology that the author gave in the spring of 1968 while he was visiting Professor in the biomathematics program of the department of experimental statistics, north Carolina State university, Raleigh.
The present review is divided into four parts are as follows:
population dynamics;
spatial patterns in one-species populations;
spatial relations of two or more species;
many-species populations. |
