| Résumé : |
This book gives excellent presentations in many aspects of basin study and analysis. It consists of a contribution of twenty-one articles. Each of these titles is written by an expert in the area of sedimentary basins.
The first part of the book is devoted to the methodology used for basin analysis. These methods include well logs, seismic stratigraphy, and methods that assist in calculating tectonic subsidence.
The second part presents varieties of worldwide-case studies that were performed on sedimentary basins. These studies cover the Saharan Cambro-Ordovician in North Africa, the middle Cretaceous of the Algero-Tunisian Sahara, the middle Jurassic Paris Basin, the Permian Coal Basin of Aumance, the Neogene sedimentation and tectonic evolution of the Suez Rift in Egypt, the Congo-Gabon Basin, Neogene Betic Basins in Spain, the California Basin, and different types of delta and deltaic basins. The last chapter deals with the factors that intervene in the geology of sedimentary basins. Over all, this book contains excellent collections of papers that provide the reader with the knowledge needed to understand and evaluate the nature, economic importance, and function of different sedimentary basins."
North-eastern Geology and Environmental Sciences, Vol. 21, No 1 & 2, March/June 1999
"The book gives a clear overview of the most important methods involved in sedimentary basin studies and their applications, and is particularly well suited for its target group: students having their first confrontation with the subject." |
