| Résumé : |
This manual has been prepared at the Fisheries Technology Service, FAO Fishery Industries Division on the basis of material supplied from many sources, as the bibliographic acknowledgements listed indicate.
The main source has been a manuscript from the Japan Tuna Fisheries Cooperative Federation written by Teruo Konagaya in which he dealt with pole-and-line fishing for tuna, mainly in relation to Japanese experience. FAO is grateful to him for his valuable contribution and to W Reed for his description of the Polynesian variant of pole-and-line fishing, as well as to M Mukundan for his contribution on the pole-and-line fishing carried out by the fishermen of Lakshadweep, and K Sivasubramaniam for his description of this fishery in Sri Lanka. Other valuable contributions came from Captain G Pajot. Dr W Fischer who checked the fish names and Ms A Barcali and Mr S Maugeri drew many of the line drawings.
Much of the material in this manual has been derived from the experience and reports of FAO personnel working on tuna fishing development in various parts of the world; also from personal communications and from many articles and other published material, which can be found listed in the bibliography.
This manual attempts to provide information and advice to those fishermen, fishing technologists, fishing instructors and extension workers for whom such pole-and-line fishing is new, as well as for those who wish to improve their present technique.
It is aimed at rather small-scale operations and is not intended to 'carry coals to Newcastle', which is why the large-scale Japanese and American fisheries are dealt with in a somewhat cursory manner. |
