Titre : Air-sea interaction : laws and mechanisms Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Csanady, G.T, Auteur Editeur : Cambridge Année de publication : 2001 Importance : 239 p. Format : 25 cm. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-521-79259-2 Langues : Français (fre) Index. décimale : 551 Géologie, météorologie, hydrologie générale Résumé : Air-sea interaction: Laws and mechanisms provides a comprehensive account of how the atmosphere and the ocean interact to control the global climate, what physical laws govern this interaction, and what are its prominent mechanisms. In recent years air-sea interaction has emerged as a subject in it own right, encompassing small-scale and large-scale processes in both air and sea.
A novel feature of the book is the treatment of empirical laws of momentum, heat and mass transfer, across the air-sea interface as well as across thermoclines, as laws of nonequilibrium thermodynamics, with focus on entropy production. Thermodynamics also underlies the treatment of the overturning circulations of the atmosphere and the ocean. Highlights are thermodynamic cycles, the important function of "hot towers" in drying out of moist air, and oceanic heat transport from the tropics to polar regions. By developing its subject from basic physical (thermodynamic) principles, the book is broadly accessible to a wide audience.
The book is mainly directed towards graduate students and research scientists in meteorology, oceanography, and environmental engineering. The book will be of value in entry-level courses in meteorology and oceanography, and to the broader physics community interested in the treatment of transfer laws and thermodynamics of the atmosphere and ocean.Air-sea interaction : laws and mechanisms [texte imprimé] / Csanady, G.T, Auteur . - Cambridge, 2001 . - 239 p. ; 25 cm.

Titre : Aquatic organic matter fluorescence Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Coble, Paula G., Auteur Editeur : Cambridge Année de publication : 2014 Importance : xiv-375 p. Format : 26 cm. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-521-76461-2 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 572 Biochimie Résumé : In recent years there has been an explosion in the use of fluorescence spectroscopy to analyze organic matter in water, and yet there was no major text on the application of fluorescence to aquatic systems. This is the first comprehensive text on the theory and practice of aquatic organic matter fluorescence analysis, written by the experts who pioneered the research area.
This book covers the topic in the broadest possible terms, providing a common reference for making measurements that are comparable across disciplines, and allowing consistent interpretation of data and results. The book includes the fundamental physics and chemistry of organic matter fluorescence, as well as the effects of environmental factors. An overview of the history and current understanding of aquatic organic matter fluorescence includes multiple examples of environmental applications relevant to environmental chemistry, marine science, environmental geosciences, environmental engineering, soil science, and physical geography. All aspects of sample handling, data processing, and the operation of both field and laboratory instrumentation are included, providing the practical advice required for successful fluorescence analyses. Advanced methods for data interpretation and modeling, including parallel factor analysis, are also discussed.
The book will be of interest to those establishing field, laboratory, or industrial applications of fluorescence, including advanced students and postdoctoral researchers.Aquatic organic matter fluorescence [texte imprimé] / Coble, Paula G., Auteur . - Cambridge, 2014 . - xiv-375 p. ; 26 cm.

Titre : Atmospheric and oceanic fluid dynamics : fundamentals and large-scalecirculation Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Vallis, Geoffrey K., Auteur Editeur : Cambridge Année de publication : 2006 Importance : XXV-745 p. Format : 26 cm. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-521-84969-2 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 551 Géologie, météorologie, hydrologie générale Résumé : Fluid dynamics is fundamental to our understanding of the atmosphere and oceans. Although many of the same principles of fluid dynamics apply to both the atmosphere and oceans, textbooks on the topic have tended to concentrate on either the atmosphere or the ocean, or on the theory of geophysical fluid dynamics (GFD). However, there is much to be said for a unified discussion, and this major new textbook provides a comprehensive, coherent treatment of all these topics, it is based on course notes that the author has developed over a number of years at Princeton and the university of California. Atmospheric and oceanic Fluid Dynamics will prove to be an invaluable graduate textbook on courses in GFD, meteorology, atmospheric science and oceanography, and will also be an excellent review volume for researchers.
