Beginning in 1932 with the Annual Reviews of Biochemistry the Company has pursed as its principal function the publication of high-quality, reasonably priced Annual Review volumes. The volumes are organized by Editors and Editorial Committees who invite qualified authors to contribute critical articles reviewing significant development within each major discipline. The Editor-in-Chief invites those interested in serving as future editorial committee members to communicate directly with him. Annual reviews is administered by a Board of directors, whose members sere without compensation.
This 34th volume entitled annual reviews of genetics has included 23 different subjects, which are presented in the following order:
chasing the cancer demon;
dynamic localization o bacterial and plasmid;
protein-splicing INTEIN: genetic mobility, origin and evolution;
transcription of eukaryotic protein-coding genes expression in the host;
the genetic of hyphal fusion and vegetative incompatibility in filmentous ascomycete fungi
recognition and silencing of repeated DNA;
courtship in drosophila;
genetics of lipoprotein abnormalities associated with coronary heart disease susceptibility;
protein and lipid requirements for endocytosis;
molecular mechanism foe constitutional chromosome;
telomeres and their control;
DNA mismatches repair and genetic instability;
polyploidy incidence and evolution;
genetic analysis of bacteriophage-encoded cochaperonins;
population genetics and evolution of genomic imprinting;
the SOS response: recent insight into umuDC-dependent mutagenesis and DNA damage tolerance;
functions and mechanisms of RNA editing;

Titre : Annual revirw of microbiology (volume 54) Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Ornston, L. Nicholas, Auteur Editeur : Annual reviews Année de publication : 2000 Importance : XI-1000 p. Format : 23 cm. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 0824311541 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 579 Micro-organismes, champignons, algues : classer ici les thallophytes Résumé : As the academic year begins each September, many of us find ourselves gazing into a sea of unlined faces and obliged to report that "This is Truth." Well, whatever "this" is, it is a perception of truth, and perceptions change. This should be a source of fun rather than horror, so Iremind students of science's counterpoised objectives. On one hand, science can be the gratifying art of prediction. On the other hand, more importantly in the long term, science is a mechanism for organizing curiosity. One objective should not be sacrificed to the other. The failure of prediction is fuel for curiosity, yet curiosity must recognize that some basic laws of nature are unlikely to be challenged successfully.
As the physicist Erwin Schrodinger recognized long ago, some of the most remarkable challenges are likely to come from microorganisms. How right he was! An annual celebration of the diverse strategies of these astonishing creatures is the meeting of the editorial board of the Annual Review of Microbiology. For preparation of this volume, our deliberations were enriched by contributions from Steven Winans. As always, the authors made the volume which was brought to fruition by the efforts of our production editor, Cleo X. Ray.Annual revirw of microbiology (volume 54) [texte imprimé] / Ornston, L.
