Résumé :	This book gives an analysis of the formation of egg cells in the ovary, in which the synthetic and metabolic activities of these cells and their relationships with the surrounding elements are especially taken into consideration. These facts are discussed with reference to the problems of the transmission of information from one generation to the next through the germ cells. Conclusions are drawn on the possible mechanisms serving for the storage of this developmental information in the fertilized egg cell, and an attempt is made to derive reasonable estimates of the amounts of information involved.
