| Résumé : |
This book brings together a collection of invited interdisciplinary perspectives on the topical environmental modeling with geographic information systems (GIS). GIS by definition is a technology designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, and visualize the diverse sets of geo-referenced data that are required to support accurate modeling of the Earth's environmental processes. Chapters by leading authorities introduce GIS technology and a broad range of environmental simulation models, while additional chapters illustrate current levels of integration and suggest opportunities for future research. The focus is on contemporary modeling in natural science as related to global change research, land and water resource management, and environmental risk assessment. In general, the environmental simulation modeling and GIS concepts in this book are relevant to each of these three types of uses, as well as for applications that can include local, regional, and global scales. |
