Titre : Bivalve molluscs : biology, ecology and culture Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Gosling, Elizabeth, Auteur Editeur : Fishing news books Année de publication : 2003 Importance : 443 p. Format : 25 cm. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-85238-234-9 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 594 Mollusques Résumé : The phylum mollusca is one of the largest, most diverse and important groups in the animal kingdom. There are over 50000 described species and about 30 000 of these are found in the sea. The class Bivalvia is one of six classes of molluscs and comprises animals enclosed in two shell valves.
Examples are mussels, oysters, scallops and clams. Although the class contains a relatively small number of species, about 7500, it elicits substantial interest chiefly because so many of its members are eaten by people in large amounts. In 1999, production of bivalves from fisheries and aquaculture was over 10.6 million metric tons worldwide with a monetary value of over.Bivalve molluscs : biology, ecology and culture [texte imprimé] / Gosling, Elizabeth, Auteur . - Fishing news books, 2003 . - 443 p. ; 25 cm.

Titre : Fishing boats and their equipment Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Pike, Dag, Auteur Mention d'édition : 2e éd Editeur : Fishing news books Année de publication : 1988 Importance : VIII-188 p. Format : 21 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-85238-160-1 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 620 Art de l'ingénieur et activités connexes Résumé : The variety of fishing boats is vast. Even restricting the selection to the smaller types, there is still a wide choice, and it is in the field of small fishing boats that many specialized types of craft have been developed to meet local conditions. Some of these craft have been developed over hundreds of years, and represent the finest seagoing craft in existence.
The choice facing the fisherman is bewildering today. Traditional craft are still built but their costs are rising because they are designed to be built by traditional methods. Some of these designs have been adapted to modern materials such as glass reinforced plastic (GRP) and Fibrocement, whilst at the same time a new range of designs specifically suited to these new materials has emerged. In addition, there are many designs which are aimed at taking advantage of steel and aluminum construction.
Where does the fisherman go for advice when selecting a hull design for a fishing boat? If he chooses a traditional design he may miss some of the advantages which modern materials can offer.
Yet he cannot really afford to experiment; when he buys a new boat it has to last for perhaps twenty years. At the same time the boat has to be adaptable to changing fishing patterns which occur all too frequently these days.
The aim of this book is firstly to look at the shape of hulls, their performance, and the materials from which they are built. The length of vessel under consideration is arbitrarily limited to around 70 feet (21m); above this size fishing boats become ships, both in shape and construction, and the problems are different.
After hulls, the book will look at engines and the whole question of propulsion, the factors which make for reliability, so important in these days when no cost-conscious fisherman can afford to have to lay up his boat for repairs. Equally important is deck machinery and its installation because without this one cannot fish.
Electronic equipment is playing an ever-increasing role, both for navigation and for fish finding. How does a fisherman, with little training in the subject, select the best equipment for his purpose?.Fishing boats and their equipment [texte imprimé] / Pike, Dag, Auteur . - 2e éd . - Fishing news books, 1988 . - VIII-188 p. ; 21 cm.

Titre : International regulation of marine fisheries : a study of regional fisheries organizations Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Koers W., Albert, Auteur Editeur : Fishing news books Année de publication : 1973 Importance : 368 p. Format : 18 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-85238-057-4 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 340 Le droit Résumé : The purpose of this book is to help forward the eventual establishment of a comprehensive and satisfactory law of the sea in particular relation to fisheries. Seven years of research and reflection have gone into its compilation. The author, Dr. Albert W Koers, presently associated with the Institute of International law of the University of Utrecht, Netherlands, graduated at that university, and thereafter was engaged successively at Harvard law school, the Rhode Island university law of the sea institute and the Woodrow Wilson international center for scholars, Washington PC. This last post led to his being specially commissioned to write this work.
It is a scholarly presentation in simple lucid sentences of a work long needed in a world now facing increasingly complex issues and the strains of conflicting interests. After stating the problems in biological, technological, economic and political terms - all of which present distinct challenges to legal arrangements - the author gives the facts about the existing international fisheries organizations. About twenty major bodies and nine subsidiary ones (the latter under the direct stimulus of the food and agriculture organization) have been created through international co-operation to cope with particular problems. The book then analyses at length the structure, functions and powers of these organizations, an analysis which clearly points out that their effectiveness is limited and their failures many. The author makes numerous suggestions for improvements.International regulation of marine fisheries : a study of regional fisheries organizations [texte imprimé] / Koers W., Albert, Auteur . - Fishing news books, 1973 . - 368 p. ; 18 cm.
